LOL... Yeah, I'm posting them in two entries so grandly, I've labelled this as Part I.
As I said yesterday, I've been DLing a lot of stuff and today, I've watched a fair few of it. One of them was Death Note L Change the World. I had seen both Death Note and Death Note the Last name but I couldn't find L Change the World... till yesterday!! I was so happy LOL... And now here we go.
If you know about Death Note, you know the story. If you don't,
here's what Wikipedia's got to say.
Light Yagami is a To-Oh University (東応大学, Tōō Daigaku) student who resents the crime and corruption in the world. His life undergoes a drastic change when he discovers a mysterious notebook, known as the "Death Note", lying on the ground. The Death Note's instructions claim that if a human's name is written within it, that person will be killed. Light is initially skeptical of the Death Note's authenticity, believing it is just a prank. However, after experimenting with it and killing two criminals, Light is forced to admit that the Death Note is real. After meeting with the previous owner of the Death Note, a God Of Death named Ryuk, Light seeks to become "the god of the new world" by passing his judgment on criminals.
Soon, the number of inexplicable deaths of reported criminals catches the attention of International Police Organization and a mysterious detective known only as "L". L quickly learns that the serial killer, dubbed by the public as "Kira" (derived from the Japanese pronunciation of the English word "killer"), is located in Japan. L also concludes that Kira can kill people without laying a finger on them. Light realizes that L will be his greatest nemesis, and a race to prove mental superiority between the two begins.
This is the plot for the film, actually, but the film follows the manga storyline until near the end. At the time when the film was released, manga hadn't finished yet so the producer had to make up their own ending. I stopped reading Death Note at the point when Near and Melo enter the story because really, L was my favourite and I got a bit bored of it by then, so I actually quite liked the film. There were much debate about casting, whether the right actors had been chosen for Raito and L... Not sure about Raito, but I'd've said L's a pretty hard character to find a suitable actor for and Matsuyama Kenichi did a good job in my opinion...
WARNING: DEATH NOTE (FILM)/L:CHANGE THE WORLD SPOILER -- IMAGE HEAVY (I have refrained from spilling too much of the actual plot of L:Change the World)
The producer said the aim of this spinoff was to show L's humane side and yes, he's done the job, though whether it was entirely reliably IC or not, I'm not sure. As it neared the end, it seemed like I was watching someone else but then it is supposed to show L's last effort kinda thing, I guess...
And as usual, the ending song rocks. For L: Change the World, it was actually Lenny Kravitz, I'll be waiting but the previous Death Note films were the only films that the Red Hot Chilli Peppers gave permission to use their songs as OST; apparently they're big fans of it.
It was, overall, good, but then I am biased XD Enjoyed seeing L in flesh again *_*
If you don't know Death Note, I'd recommened reading/watching. The brain battle between Raito and L is just... unbelievable. Manga's been completed, I haven't watched anime but considering its release/end date, I'd say it also has its own ending, like the films. I didn't bother reading Near and Melo part but I know that at least until that part, it's worth reading it... I've read the ending of manga Death Note. A little confusing because I skipped a whole chunk but I more or less got the gist of it... Some people seemed very unhappy with the way film was done but I thought they've done well. I enjoyed both of them, now, the spinoff too XD
